After going 4-5 it’s safe to say the SEC struggled a bit this bowl season, but they won the two that mattered most and the conference will soon be welcoming another National Title. The question is will Nick Saban win his fifth championship at Alabama or will Kirby Smart be bringing home Georgia’s first National Title since 1980?
Both teams have proved their strengths and have shown few weaknesses throughout the season. The Tide’s defense is entering Mercedes Benz ranked number one in the country, but they’ll be facing a challenge with Georgia’s star running backs. Seniors Nick Chubb and Sony Michel are major threats on the Dawgs’ offense; After their Rose Bowl win the pair broke college football’s record on most career rushing yards by a duo.
It will be interesting to see how quaterbacks Jake Fromm and Jalen Hurts fare on Monday night. Although not necessarily off the charts amazing, the two are efficient and tend to avoid critical errors. They get the job done. Appearing in his second National Title, Hurts is entering a somewhat familiar atmosphere. Fromm, however, is seeking to become just the second freshman QB ever to win a National Championship.
There’s no doubt that this matchup will be a close one. I’m taking Alabama in a down to the last few seconds win.
After Monday night thoughts shift to next season and all of the uncertainties it holds. Is it too early to be excited for September? I think not.
