The College Football Craze Awaits

With less than two months until the kickoff of college football the bold predictions begin.

The opening weekend of college football is typically noted as a weekend of “cupcake games”. This year can’t quite be titled as such. College football fans are in for an exciting Saturday.

This past season’s National Championship Runner up, The Crimson Tide, will face Florida State in the new Mercedes Benz Stadium at 8pm on September 2nd. This match up, consisting of two top 5 teams, will definitely be an exciting one to say the least. After falling short against Clemson in the playoffs, there is no doubt Coach Saban will have his team ready to make a statement.

The Florida Gators and the Michigan Wolverines will also be meeting on opening weekend. Harbaugh and McElwain’s teams will be facing off in the Dallas Cowboys Stadium at 3:30pm. It is likely the Wolverines will show up with a chip on their shoulders after a disappointing end to last years season. But, so will the Gators. The last time these two teams met Michigan handed Florida a beat down, 41-7, in the 2016 Citrus Bowl. Uncertainty remains in regards to Florida’s offense. McElwain’s third team may be his best, but that’s only if they can find consistency at the quarterback position. Time will tell.

Upset Alert? Doubtful, but who knows.  Kirby Smart will begin his second year at UGA with a 6:15pm match up against one of the most talented teams on the Group of Five level, Appalachian State. This game will set the course for the Bulldogs’ upcoming season. UGA is currently the preseason SEC East favorite. However, an early loss could change some opinions.

Other notable games: Aug. 26th- Stanford vs. Rice, Sept. 3rd- Virginia Tech vs. West Virginia, Texas A&M vs. UCLA, Sept 4th- (@Mercedes Benz Stadium) Georgia Tech vs. Tennessee
